RALEIGH, NC (March 1, 2004) - To help electronics systems designers achieve accurate current-sensing in high current circuits, resistor manufacturer SEI Electronics, Inc. has developed a broad line of cost effective, ultra-low resistance surface mount resistors in industry-standard 0402 to 2512 sizes.
Designated the CSR Series, these resistors are capable of achieving low resistance values from 0.001 ohms to 0.500 ohms, in tolerances to +/- 1%. In the largest case size 2512, the CSR is capable of handling up to 2 watts of power at 70°C.
Utilizing precision metal foil and metallurgical processes, the CSR resistors exhibit extremely low inductance of less than 0.2nH, making them ideal for use in high frequency applications. The CSR series also offers TCRs of less than +/- 100ppm/°C and are capable of handling 30 amperes of current while operating in a temperature range of -55°C to +150°C.
Kory Schroeder, SEI Product Manager, explains that the CSR series has become increasingly popular because of its excellent current handling characteristics and its availability in a variety of industry standard footprints. “As the need for higher-speed processing and mobile computing increases, engineers are being creative in implementing multiple phase circuitry by using cost-effective current sense resistors. In this regard, we continue to see demand for stable, low value sense resistors with footprints from 0402 to 2512,” said Schroeder.
SEI also offers the CSR series with narrow terminations which allow for traces under the part and custom or non-standard resistance values. Schroeder added, “we differentiate ourselves from other resistor manufacturers on a variety of sizes, termination geometries, resistance values and particularly price.”
The CSR Series is used in applications requiring battery management circuitry for cell phones, PDAs, laptop computers, medical devices, audio equipment and power supplies.
Typical pricing for the CSR Series resistors is approximately $0.20 in quantities of 5,000, with delivery times from stock to 6 weeks. Samples are available immediately.
