New system implemented to improve shipping accuracy and increase flexibility…

SEI UNVEILS NEW WAREHOUSE OPERATING SYSTEM

Raleigh, NC (May 3, 2004) – Resistor manufacturer SEI Electronics, Inc. recently unveiled their new warehouse operating system at its main North American distribution center in El Paso, Texas. The new system, developed by SEI, was designed to improve shipping accuracy and simplify accompanying documentation such as packing lists and bar code labels.

SEI’s Director of Quality Assurance Joe Biernacki commented on the main advantages of the new system. “We are more effectively utilizing bar code technology to reduce pulling and packing errors and improve inventory accuracy. Eliminating administrative errors is one of our primary goals, and our re-engineering efforts have eliminated the opportunity for human error in most processes.”

SEI’s Director of Information Technology Dan Schad sees many other benefits of the new system. “We have re-engineered our internal processes utilizing the concepts of ‘one piece flow’ to reduce cycle times and increase our flexibility”, remarked Schad. “We can more easily respond to customer changes, and have greater control and visibility of orders as they move through the warehouse.”

As part of the system implementation, SEI has also introduced new bar coding software and new bar code printers, providing greater flexibility in meeting custom label requirements.
