RAF series saves space and reduces placement costs...

STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. INTRODUCES
0201 x 2 AND 0201 x 4 RESISTOR ARRAYS

RALEIGH, NC (April 10, 2006) – Stackpole Electronics, Inc. recently introduced the RAF05 series chip resistor arrays. The RAF05 series is an isolated resistor network consisting of two (RAF05-2D) or four (RAF05-4D) 0201 size resistors in a single component.

“The downsizing of discrete resistors has reached the point of diminishing returns”, Kory Schroeder, SEI Product Engineering Manager explained. “The packaging required for the 0201 and 01005 chip resistors is so high that it far outweighs the cost benefits of using less materials. The next logical step in downsizing then must be integration.”

Because the 0201 X 2 is twice the size of the 0201 and the 0201 X 4 is four times the size, many of the packaging challenges that cause costs to increase are alleviated. In addition, the larger overall component size is easier for pick and place machines to handle, also increasing the manufacturing throughput. This combined with all of the other benefits that arrays bring over discretes, such as lower overall acquisition cost, and better tolerance and TC tracking between resistive elements, make these two chip arrays the ideal solution for all types of electronics that require high package density. Such applications would include pull up and pull down resistors, automotive CAN bus, network cards, modems, graphics cards, communications cards, and any circuit board where data is transferred in a bus structure.

The RAF05 series is offered in standard E24 values from 10ohm to 1Mohm in 5% tolerance. The operating temperature range is from –55 to 150 degrees C, with a rated power of 31mW per element at 25 degrees C and operating voltage of 12.5 volts. Current leadtimes are seven weeks with many values in stock. Standard packaging is 10,000pcs per reel, with typical pricing of $0.08 each for both the two and four element arrays.
