The industry’s first 2 watt 2512 chip with improved thermal characteristics...

STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. INTRODUCES A TRUE 2 WATT 2512 SIZE CHIP RESISTOR

RALEIGH, NC (Sept. 21, 2006) – Stackpole Electronics, Inc. introduces a new thick film high power 2512 size SMD chip resistor capable of handling 2 watts of power. Designated the RHC series, the incorporation of unique materials, design, and processes yields a product that runs typically 30 degrees C cooler than standard 2512 chips, and solder joint temperatures well below the industry standard for circuit boards of 105C. Maximum 5-second overload power is also increased by 70% over standard 2512 chips. Finally the performance of the RHC shows no additional resistance shift for the EIA 575 standard short time overload test at the elevated power rating.

The RHC series is able to achieve tolerances of 1% and 5% at a TCR of 100 ppm as a standard product. It is available in E24 values from .1 ohm up to 1 Meg ohms, and has a continuous working voltage of 200 volts. The only significant dimensional change is the bottom termination is significantly larger. This change provides a more reliable termination with better heat conduction. The RHC has a special resistive element and coating that offer better heat transfer to the ambient air and are more tolerant to higher temperatures associated with high power. Finally, product is trimmed in such a way as to more evenly distribute the heat over the surface of the resistive element rather than concentrate the heat on a single hot spot as with normal calibration trims.

This product is perfect for applications requiring high power density such as large control systems, power supplies, industrial machinery controls, high power communications, UPS systems, HVAC controls, welding equipment, and commercial ovens.

The RHC series is 100% RoHS compliant and is available in 4000 pcs on tape and reel, with samples available in 3 – 4 weeks. Standard pricing for the RHC 2512 is $0.12 each for 5% tolerance and $0.18 each for the 1% tolerance.
