New axial leaded resistor series offers stable performance in high humidity environments...

STACKPOLE ELECTRONICS, INC. INTRODUCES HDM SERIES OF MOISTURE PROOF AXIAL LEADED RESISTORS

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 7, 2007) – Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announces the HDM series of axial leaded film resistors that are not susceptible to corrosion in high moisture environments. This expansion of Stackpole’s leaded resistor product offering augments their already expansive portfolio and compliments their SMD precision chip resistor series, the RNCS. This product addition will allow designers to use a relatively less expensive film resistor technology for applications where humidity and moisture corrosion are a concern.

It has been well documented that film resistors in the presence of moisture and relatively small electrical potential may be vulnerable to corrosion. Whether the film is Nichrome metal film, or carbon film, these conditions set up a chemical reaction that causes the resistive element to become an open circuit. Designers previously have been forced to use more costly metal glaze technology, to modify their designs to eliminate low power usage, or to modify their final manufacturing process to eliminate moisture and contaminates. The HDM series removes the need for these considerations.

According to Stackpole Engineering Manager Kory Schroeder, “The HDM series is different from other film resistors in many aspects. From the resistance materials used, to special processing treatments, to final passivation coating, each area has been improved and optimized for the best possible moisture performance.”

The HDM series is available in standard mini ½ watt and mini ¼ watt leaded resistor sizes and tolerances as low as 1%. Resistance value range goes from 1 ohm to 2.2 Meg ohms. They are available in standard tape and ammo packaging. Typical pricing is $10.00 to $15.00 per thousand, with standard lead times of nine weeks.
